National EMS Memorial Bike Ride Coming in September!

BikeRideLogoThe National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, Inc. honors EMS personnel by organizing and implementing long distance cycling events to celebrate and remember those who serve every day, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty. The West Coast portion of the ride begins September 25th in Reno and concludes on September 30th in San Francisco.

NAEMT Releases Report on EMS Preparedness for Disasters and Mass Casualty Incidents

NAEMTThe National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) recently released a report, National Survey on EMS Preparedness for Disaster and Mass Casualty Incident Response, based on the results of a 2016 national survey of EMS practitioners and managers. The findings offer insight into the level of proficiency and training of EMS practitioners who provide the medical response expected by communities during disasters and mass casualty incidents.

2017 Mission Lifeline Awards Announced

AHA Mission LifelineThis week the American Heart Association began notifying local EMS Systems and EMS Providers they have been selected to receive this year's MISSION: LIFELINE EMS award in recognition of sustained excellence in cardiac care. This is the 10th year for this program which promotes systems of care for heart attack patients. In California, the following local EMS Systems are being recognized for prompt recognition, intervention and treatment of patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI):

Anti-Trust Challenge by AmeriCare in Orange County Dismissed

AmericareAmeriCare Ambulance's combined complaint against twelve cities in Orange County (CA) for alleged anti-trust behavior has been dismissed by the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. The 12 cities had either provided or contracted for emergency ambulance services prior to June 30, 1980. In its dismissal action on March 28th, the Court ruled these cities are entitled to anti-trust protection under California's Health & Safety Code, Division 2.5, Section 1797.201. An appeal by AmeriCare to the 9th Circuit District Court of Appeals is expected. The Court's ruling is found below:
